Foster Homes Save Lives!

We are always limited in the number of GSDs we can help due to lack of space in foster homes. At any given time, we have a list of dogs waiting to come into rescue. These dogs are in shelters, owner surrenders and sometimes abandoned at vet's offices or on the streets. We can only afford to board a very limited number of dogs, and we prefer not to have them in boarding long-term.

Fostering is an important part of animal rescue. Socialization is critical with a rescued GSD, as many personality traits are discovered through interaction with other people and animals. Space is limited at our base, so as we take in more animals, they'll be in need of a nurturing environment during their evaluations and any veterinary treatments necessary. Mid-South Shepherd Rescue will cover all expenses incurred during fostering. As a foster parent, you will need to be available to bring the dog to the vet if necessary, bring the dog to adoption days, and also to show the dog to potential adopters individually.

Our adoption program is extensive, and it is our goal to find the perfect animal/human match. We will rely heavily on the observations and opinions of the foster parent, as you'll be the most familiar with the dog. Placement of the animal in a forever home must be approved by the director as well as the foster.
